Spices moved up broadly but gently in the three months to 4 November 2026. Of the family's 31 materials, 28 carry an index, and 24 of those rose while 4 fell. The average gain is 2.0%, level with the herbs, condiments and spices group, and the one-year move of +1.8% trails the group's +3.7%.
One line breaks the pattern: pepper is up 22.1% over three months and 24.6% over a year. Jalapeño follows a long way behind at +6.4%. Most of the other chilli lines, from Ancho and Chipotle to Espelette pepper, gained just 0.8%.
Coriander rose 4.6% over three months and 10.9% over a year, and curry 4.0%. Cumin is the main faller, down 2.2% over three months and 8.6% over a year, although its note describes a tight Indian market at Unjha on 28 October. Ginger slipped 1.9% over three months. The European ginger market tightened on 10 September as stocks from China and Thailand declined, while abundant supply depressed Peruvian ginger prices, according to a 21 September report.
Turmeric (+0.4%) and black pepper (+2.8%) rose modestly. A 12 October report from Erode put high turmeric prices down to festive demand and supply shortages linked to recent drought, and Indian black pepper rose on 21 October ahead of Deepavali, with festive demand cited. Cardamom and saffron have no index; cardamom reached a record average auction price on 12 October.
