Every wood and timber material was higher on 4 November 2026 than three months earlier, but only just: none gained more than 0.5%. The nine indices average +0.4% over three months and +2.2% over a year, well below the 5.7% annual rise for packaging as a whole. Over the quarter, though, wood sits level with the packaging average of +0.4%.
Barrels & kegs, wooden barrels / casks and kegs share the top three-month gain at 0.5%, alongside wood-wool / dunnage. Over a year the order changes: barrels and kegs are up only 0.8%, the smallest rise in the family, while wood-wool / dunnage leads at +4.6%.
Wooden boxes & crates gained 0.3% over three months and 2.6% over a year, the third-largest annual rise in the family. Wooden crates and wirebound boxes rose 0.2%, or 2.3% on the year, and plywood boxes 0.2%, or 2.1%.
Other wood, up 0.3% over three months and 3.8% over a year, is the only material in the family with a market note, dated 2 November. It reports that sawmills in Veneto faced cost and supply pressures on 29 October, and that on 30 October an Alabama lumber mill announced its closure while West Fraser indefinitely curtailed its mill at Leola, Arkansas.
On supply, the note says State Forests set its 2027 timber sales plan slightly above its 2026 plan on 14 October, and that on 9 October the Ministry of Climate said it wanted to increase raw-material supply.
Wooden crates and boxes, wirebound and plywood cases, barrels, casks and kegs, wood-wool and other dunnage: these are the nine lines tracked. Barrels and kegs aside, every line gained at least 2.1% on the year.
