Steady and small: glass packaging gained 0.6% on average over three months, with six of its seven materials higher and the seventh unchanged, as of 4 November 2026. Over a year the family is up 1.3%, the smallest annual rise of any packaging family and well short of the 5.7% average for packaging.

Glass jars and verrines lead the family, both up 1.0% over three months; on the year, jars have gained 1.8% and verrines 1.2%. Pharmaceutical glass comes next. Vials & ampoules rose 0.6% over three months and 1.9% over a year, the strongest annual move in glass, and pharma vials 0.6% and 1.7%.

Bottles sit at the low end. Wine / spirits bottles rose 0.5% over three months and 1.1% over a year, glass bottles 0.4% and 0.5%, the smallest annual gain in glass. Ampoules were unchanged over the quarter, the only flat index in the family, and are up 0.8% on the year.

The glass bottle note, dated 2 November, is about deposits and reuse rather than prices. On 7 October, Poland's ministry proposed extending its deposit system to glass bottles, and retailers opposed adding single-use ones. In Spain, recycled glass made up a larger share of the material melted for new packaging than in 2020.

Two reuse ventures also feature in the note. In Amsterdam, Rebottled had collected surplus glass bottles for a platform that matches them with potential users. In Clisson, Loire-Atlantique, Boutin services had invested in glass-bottle washing over three years.

In scope: glass bottles, wine and spirits bottles among them, jars and verrines, and pharmaceutical vials and ampoules. No glass material is lower than it was three months or a year ago.
