Cereals are one of the firmer corners of the ingredients market. As of 4 November 2026, 23 cereals and seeds with a three-month move were higher and only 7 lower, for an average of +2.3%, against +0.8% for Ingredients as a whole. Over one year the family average is +3.2%.
Wheat and barley stand out on both horizons. Wheat and barley are each up 7.0% over three months, and 19.0% and 16.0% over the year. The wheat note reports European prices supported on 14 October by large purchase tenders and Black Sea tensions; the barley note puts England's 2026 harvest, the same day, at its smallest in more than a decade, tightening domestic supplies.
Rye gained 6.2% and 11.4%, and dry corn 5.3% and 13.9%. The corn note records France's 2026 corn harvest reported sharply lower on 20 October, with drought and heatwaves cited, while on the same day Chicago corn futures kept falling as the harvest advanced. Cornmeal added 4.7% over three months.
The top three-month move belongs to sesame and white sesame, both +10.8%, and +3.0% on the year. Their notes say Indian sesame prices surged on 20 October amid tighter supply and strong demand, and that Indian FOB prices rose again on 25 October. Over twelve months, millet leads at +20.3%, just ahead of wheat, with Ukrainian millet yields reported up on 28 October.
Rice is mixed. Basmati rice is up 6.2%, with Indian prices reported firmer on 28 October on strong Gulf demand. White long-grain rice rose 2.4%; on 31 October Vietnamese rice prices were reported at a multi-month high amid supply shortages. Paddy rice is the weakest line, down 3.1% on three months and 18.5% on the year.
Six lines have no three-month move, among them buckwheat; sorghum shows only a one-year change, +10.0%.
