A flat average hides wide moves in this family. As of 4 November 2026, oils and vinegars average 0.0% over three months and +0.4% over one year, with seven materials up, nine down and two unchanged. The extremes sit far apart: castor oil at the top, extra virgin olive oil at the bottom.
Extra virgin olive oil is down 11.2% on three months and 23.9% on the year. Virgin olive oil (-6.5% and -17.8%) and olive oil (-6.1% and -16.6%) follow. The olive oil note reports harvests described as good on 25 October and cooperatives calling for part of production to be withdrawn, warning that falling quotations threatened traditional groves.
The extra virgin note adds that on 30 October origin prices for extra virgin oil rebounded slightly from the previous week, while virgin and lampante grades fell again. The older virgin olive oil note, dated 6 October, reported that Andalusian growers had asked for surpluses to be taken off the market.
On the rising side, castor oil gained 12.0% over three months, with no note. Soybean oil is up 4.7% and 9.6%; its note says US use of soybean oil for biofuel had overtaken food use, and that March soybean oil futures hit a multi-month low on 29 October. Rapeseed oil rose 4.2% (6.8% on the year), with a tight EU balance reported to keep rapeseed prices firm on 29 October.
Rapeseed meal posts the strongest annual gain, +20.5%, after +4.4% on three months. Palm oil is up 1.6% and 9.6%. Sunflower went the other way: sunflower oil and oleic sunflower oil are 2.1% lower over three months, with Black Sea sunflower oil described as weaker on 29 October. Coconut oil fell 1.3%, and 19.2% on the year.
Two lines carry notes but no index: shea butter and pumpkin seed oil. Wine vinegar, the family's only vinegar, rose 2.6% over three months and 2.1% over the year.
